Entrance to the exhibition “Senza Obiettivo” International Pinhole Photography Exhibition, here we are in the underground area of the extraordinary Museum Complex of Santa Maria della Scala in the centre of Siena. 32 pinhole artists from all over the world brought together in an exhibition as a result of the research of Mauro Tozzi and Alessandro Mlach. The organisers would like to thank Nancy Spencer, Eric Renner, Peter Olpe and Domenique Stroobant.

These walls are over a thousand years old. In the background, high up, you can see a fresco of Saint Catherine of Siena, who offered her services in this place. Particularly striking are premises of the Company of Saint Catherine of the Night, the Pilgrims’ Hall and the Archaeological Museum… 20,000 square metres of display space in all. www.santamariadellascala.com

The organisers of the exhibition: Mauro Tozzi, and in the background Alessandro Mlach. Presentation by the Mayor of Siena, Maurizio Cenni, and the President of Santa Maria della Scala, Anna Carli. The exhibition was part of the XI edition of the Visionaria International Film Festival curated by Mauro Tozzi. www.visionaria.eu

The Museum Complex of Santa Maria della Scala, situated in the heart of Siena, opposite the cathedral. It represents one of the first examples of hostel and hospital in Europe, with its own independent and structured organisation to welcome pilgrims and to help the poor and abandoned children. The underground areas where the exhibition was hosted now house the “Treasury of Santa Maria della Scala” which grew up around an important series of relics, works of art originating from Constantinople.
